It rained, it poured and it woke us all up, though none knew the others were awake till this morning. I’m now having my coffee in bed and feel lucky and safe.
There’s been a lot happening in this corner of the world since I got to Rwanda two weeks ago. The M23 invading DRC, the US pausing most of their international aid programs and the ebola outbreak in Uganda.
I’m so incredibly lucky in this world and on Thursday I’ll be going home to Norway, after a pit stop in Uganda which I’m not looking forward to too much due to the outbreak, but back home I’ll be even safer and luckier living in a peaceful corner of the world with an incredible security network and clean air, clean water and endless opportunities – if I choose to look for them.
I’ve won the lottery of life, and the problematic complexity and understanding of my privilege has never been clearer to me than on this trip.
