I wanted to share a bit about the months as chapters and what’s happened. Mainly to reflect and look back at what’s happened. And a lot has happened this month. It started with something as grey and draining as the flu. It really stuck with me and held my lung capacity captive till about mid January.
Before my body healed I had to travel further south in Norway to a beautiful place called Stord. I really like it there. I went to study because I’m on their MA program in Music. It’s a great course and I’ve grown very fond of everything to do with the program. I borrowed an electric bike from the University and got around that way. It was icy and very cold, with no clouds and very clear air. January can be truly beautiful with it’s pastell colours and ice clear air.
I went back to work and could bike to work a few times but one time I fell on my bike because of the ice and after that I went back driving or taking the bus instead. Depending on the day, the schedule at work and the weather.
We’ve cut down the planted spruce trees in front of the house this month. It’s been a very heavy, complex and time consuming job and I couldn’t contribute very much. But the trees are now gone and the light and view is changed. I hope something else will grow up there, like plants that doesn’t turn the local ecosystem in to nearly a monoculture. We haven’t finished this project yet but it’s coming to an end as the largest part was the 15 meter tall spruce trees.
The album is coming to an end too. The recording part at least. There are still big bits here and there but the overall feel of it is coming to an end work wise. It’s a chapter I’ve worked on for two years now and I’m not over it yet. I’ve grown to appreciate the process and it’s tested both my ability to let go of control and my patience. I’m very happy with how the songs are coming together and it feels like a life’s work.
After the flu let go, I went back to working out. I feel in love with yoga again and also with the yang to my yin that is jiu-jitzu. It’s like a dance to wrestle, and yoga is a meditation. A beautiful balance in life.
For February I wish there to be more light and more music. The joy of picking up the guitar, of practicing the piano, of singing freely and of music just being, not evaluated. Of taking portraits and photos of landscapes. Of clothes I feel well in and finally being able to wear other shoes than my winter boots. Of cycling to work noticing the brighter mornings, of cold air and maybe even some days off. I hope I will go skiing at some point in February and also be by the ocean at my parent’s place. And lastly I want to start working on a new creative project, just overlapping with the album being finalised with it’s finishing touches.
